Parenting from the Heart
A 4-week class for parents, teachers and other adults who interact with children and impact their lives.
Saturdays, October 28 – November 18

9:30 am - Noon
with Marilee Linhares and J Johnson
presented by the Unity Spiritual Center Denver Youth & Family Ministry
Parents, teachers and other adults will learn to:
- Establish an environment where everyone’s needs matter – and be freed of struggling to make previously ineffective parenting styles work.
- Nurture self-empathy and plan for next time, after acting in ways that don’t line up with personal values (like kindness, respect, etc.) and be released from guilt and shame.
- Listen effectively for a child’s feelings and needs behind any behavior to reestablish connection, ease and harmony.
- Support understanding and a child’s desire to contribute and watch their tendency to react with anger, punishment, judgment or blame diminish.
- Build mutual trust and respect as the core of family relationships, as each member experiences the joy of willingly contributing to one another.
As a result, children and teenagers will:
- Build healthy self-esteem, hearing and trusting that their feelings and needs matter.
- Gain self-acceptance and greater self-honesty from living without judgment and blame.
- Enjoy more emotional intimacy with their parents – while also understanding that they do not cause their parents’ feelings.
- Enjoy more emotional intimacy with their parents and caregivers – and come to understand that everyone, adult or child, is responsible for his/her own feelings.
- Experience doing things from their own internal motivation, rather than from external punishments and rewards.
- Learn how to hear the feelings and needs behind others’ judgments or anger, building their own confidence and emotional safety.
Learn to express their feelings in ways that are likely to inspire empathy and cooperation from their parents and others.
Experience the satisfaction of contributing to their own wellbeing – and that of their parents, friends and others at the same time.
